Jim Gersbach is a tree specialist, the creator of the Linear Arboretum, and a delightful font of information about our closest neighbors: the trees that surround the globe, and help to make us fully involved Earthlings. Cerimon House was delighted to host Friends of Trees who presented Mr. Gersbach's informative lecture on trees (and all that they know), and about the biodiversity of our neighborhood and the larger world.
The mission of the local nonprofit Friends of Trees is to bring people together to plant and care for city trees and green spaces in Pacific Northwest communities. Homeowners buy discounted trees to plant with their neighbors at weekend plantings, and trained crew leaders guide volunteers at weekend events to restore green spaces.
Since Friends of Trees was founded in 1989, the organization has planted nearly half a million trees and native plants in the greater Portland area, including the eight beloved Japanese Stewartias that ring our Cerimon House building.
